述曰：頌中所言「前異熟」者，謂前前生業異熟果。「異熟果」者，顯通總別，頌文狹故，但言異熟，意亦通也。以過去世多生之業，同於一身得受果，謂「前前生業異熟果」也。又前前生業之異熟，非唯一生名前前也。又前前異熟體非一故，後亦當爾。既第三句中不解下二字，解第四句先解下三字，謂「餘異熟」等，將欲解頌既盡等言故，先發言云。

The Commentary states: What is stated in the verse as "the former ripening" refers to the karmic ripened fruit of anterior and previous lives. "Ripened fruit" shows that it encompasses both general and particular; because the verse text is brief, it merely says "ripening", but its meaning is also comprehensive. Since the karma of many lives in the past comes together in one body to receive fruit, it is said: "the karmic ripened fruit of anterior and previous lives". Moreover, it is the ripening of karma from anterior and previous lives; it is not called "anterior and previous" with respect to only a single life. Furthermore, because the entities of anterior and previous ripenings are not one, subsequent ones will also be like this. Since the lower two characters in the third line are not yet explained, and in explaining the fourth line it first explains the lower three characters—namely "remaining ripening" and so forth—intending to explain the words "having been exhausted" and so on in the verse, it first states:
