8.32

述曰：體是六根，即通八識，五根為體，果唯是心、心所，前三果果性皆同，因准可知。然無間緣，謂現在時為緣，非在過去，過去無故，即現在有力用，能開導法令未來生故，入過去時其用方顯，果現前故，處所空故。

The Commentary states: Its substance is the six faculties, covering the eight consciousnesses and taking the five faculties as substance; the results are solely citta and caitasikas. The natures of the results of the preceding three results are all identical, and the causes may be understood by analogy. However, as for the immediate condition, it serves as a condition in the present, not in the past, because the past does not exist; that is, the present possesses efficacious capacity, being able to open the way and guide phenomena so that the future may arise; when it enters the past, its function only then becomes apparent, because the result is present and the position has been vacated.
