The Commentary states: Second, resolving difficulties, wherein there are five: First, harmonizing with the Samuccaya. If five are induced and two are the inducing, why does the Samuccaya call consciousness inducing? Three and four differ. When the Samuccaya says consciousness is 'also' inducing, it is because it serves as the third along with the preceding two branches; hence it introduces the word 'also'. Because karma seeds within consciousness are named the branch of consciousness, and within the seed-consciousness karmic consciousness is universally present, the karma seed is spoken of as the branch of consciousness, which is subsumed under the inducing. If so, under what dharma is the seed of consciousness subsumed?
