述曰：此中文二，如上所解。「愛、取、有」者，出其體也，今以三法為能生體。近生當來生、老死者，釋能生名，雖愛、取二亦能潤前六引因體，名為能潤，以近當果，但說能生。此釋名也，總為初段。

The Commentary states: The text here is divided into two parts, as explained above. 'Craving, grasping, and becoming' sets forth their essence; here, these three phenomena are taken as the essence of the generating factors. 'Directly generate future birth and old age and death' explains the name 'generating factors': although craving and grasping can also moisten the essence of the previous six projecting causes and are termed 'moistening factors', because they are proximate to the future fruit they are only spoken of as 'generating factors'. This explains the name, and altogether constitutes the first section.
