The Commentary states: The five seeds of consciousness and the rest are named 'becoming' there because they are the seeds that directly generate the five future phenomena of consciousness and the rest; being direct causes able to produce [them], karma is not spoken of. These are both partial explanations and do not refer to the actual essence. The tenth fascicle further states: complete-factor becoming is the seeds of karma, and of consciousness through feeling, which are said to be 'becoming' because they are subsumed under grasping. As for this phrase 'in some places', the sūtras and treatises are numerous, so they are not cited individually.
