The Commentary states: The answer is that at the stage of moistening, craving and grasping are stated. Although all afflictions can moisten rebirth, at the stage of moistening karma the power of craving is singularly predominant. How is this known? The treatises state only the four cravings as the truth of origin. Moreover, the holy teachings all state that craving is like water, capable of watering and moistening; therefore, the others are not mentioned. Why is that which initiates karma only a single ignorance, whereas the affliction that moistens rebirth is divided into craving and grasping?
