The Commentary states: By this it is proved that noble ones definitely do not generate karma that brings about future existence. Why do they not generate it? Because they do not long for future painful fruits with delusion: because they are not deluded, they know it is detestable; because they do not long for it, they do not desire rebirth. Because the seeds of unshared ignorance are already severed, and because they already take anāsrava knowledge as their condition, all sāsrava [actions] of learners are definitely not the formation link. Question: If so, is the karma of cultivated intermingled dhyāna for the five pure abodes not a formation link? If it is, then noble ones would generate karma; if it is not, how could they be reborn there, incurring general retribution?
