The Commentary states: The explanation of the second master. Within the text there are four [parts]: first, declaring the thesis; second, citing proof; third, refutation; fourth, concluding with the correct [position]. That the darśana- and nimitta-bhāgas are born of causes and conditions is also the other-dependent; relying upon these two parts, one falsely grasps them as determinately real, as existent, as non-existent, as both existent and non-existent, as neither existent nor non-existent, as identical, as different, as both, as neither, etc. This takes existence and non-existence as one set of extreme propositions, identity and difference as a second set of extreme propositions at the head, with both and neither applying to both places. Only these two [erroneously grasped] darśana and nimitta are called the imagined nature; the two dharmas born from causes and conditions are not called the imagined nature. Therefore, harmonizing with the preceding master, he next cites textual proof.
