The Commentary states: Below he cites proof. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha, fascicle four, states: 'vijñapti-mātra, two, manifold.' What it calls 'vijñapti-mātra', here is called 'cognition-only' (mātra); what it calls 'two', here is called 'only two'. It explains itself: '"mātra" because there are no external objects; "only two" because there are darśana and nimitta; "manifold" because they arise in manifold aspects (ākāra).' Because there are nimitta and darśana, the two kinds can be established; thus the darśana- and nimitta-bhāgas are other-dependent. The Buddhabhūmi-sūtra states: 'manifesting bodies, lands, and so forth,' and the four authoritative teachings cited previously in the second fascicle all have two, three, and four divisions; therefore it says 'manifold', all being called other-dependent. Furthermore, 'manifold' means that the darśana-bhāga and nimitta-bhāga each have manifold aspects, as stated in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha.
