The Commentary states: This is a passage from fascicle five of Vasubandhu’s Mahāyānasaṃgraha[-bhāṣya]. There he explains names and objects: “If their substances correspond to each other, they would contradict each other. Herein, names are established as paratantra-svabhāva, and objects as parikalpita-svabhāva.” The meaning of this is: “name” refers to name among the five factors; “object” refers to marks and discrimination, because they are what names express and because they are the apprehended and the grasper. Since this subsumption differs from that of the five factors, it is cited in contrast.
