The Commentary states: “Et cetera” includes the self-witnessing part (svasaṃvittibhāga) and the part that witnesses self-witnessing. These are mind and mental factors belonging to the paratantra-svabhāva. Through the power and force of the expressing name, grasping arises by taking it as an object following the expressing name, thereby becoming that which is universally conceptualized (parikalpya). Therefore, paratantra is said to be subsumed under “name”. The term “that which is universally conceptualized” does not mean the parikalpita-svabhāva; it is paratantra-svabhāva because it is the basis of what is conceptualized. Vasubandhu said: “Because paratantra becomes what is universally conceptualized through the power of name,” which precisely agrees with this. He does not mention the pariniṣpanna-svabhāva, because its substance is extremely remote from names.
