9.275

The Commentary states: First, cessation of self-nature: cessation means non-arising; its nature is real, but it is nominally designated as cessation, and is definitely not subsumed under the truth. Second, cessation of the two graspings: because the grasper and the grasped are absent. Dharmapāla and Sthiramati have distinct explanations; obtaining the cessation of the other-dependent from what is absent, it is nominally designated as cessation; its status as a truth is real, but because it is not other-dependent, its nature is metaphorical. The Madhyāntavibhāga says: non-arising of the two graspings. Third, cessation of original nature: the Madhyāntavibhāga says: it refers to analytical cessation (pratisaṃkhyā-nirodha) and tathatā, which contrasts with this. As reconciled in that commentary, these correspond in order to the three natures.
