The Commentary states: The mind transforming into tathatā is called "some small thing." Since this is not without marks, it is called "carrying marks." "Marks" refers to characteristics; when one realizes the real, these marks then cease. "Marks" means the mark of the imaginary, and the existence of the dependent mark; these are called the marks of emptiness and existence. That is, the marks of existence and emptiness are the true ultimate nature of that vijñapti-mātra. "True" is another name for the ultimate. The fourth ultimate [truth] excludes the prior three. Because these marks exist, one has not yet realized the true principle; upon extinguishing the marks of emptiness and existence, one can then enter the real.
