The Commentary states: 'Twenty-eight latencies' refers to the ten under suffering in the desire realm, and nine in each of the two higher realms, excluding anger (dveṣa). 'Suffering' means the truth of suffering. 'Dharma' means the teaching of the truth of suffering. 'Wisdom' means the wisdom in the preparatory path that cognizes the dharma of suffering. 'Receptivity' (kṣānti) means pure receptivity, tolerating the preceding dharma of suffering and its wisdom, as explained in detail in the ninth fascicle of the Abhidharma[-samuccaya-bhāṣya]. Receptivity is called wisdom because of decisiveness; discernment (prajñā) is not like this; although receptivity and wisdom are not distinct, their names are designated according to their functions. 'Suffering dharma-wisdom': dharma refers to the suchness of suffering; the wisdom able to cognize the suchness of suffering is called 'suffering dharma-wisdom'. 'Suffering subsequent-wisdom receptivity': the subsequent noble dharma is of the same category as this suffering wisdom, so it is called 'suffering subsequent-wisdom'; the discernment cognizing this is called 'suffering subsequent-wisdom receptivity'. 'Suffering subsequent-wisdom': that which confirms and cognizes the wisdom of the category of suffering is called 'suffering subsequent-wisdom'.
