The Commentary states: The realizer and the realized are taken as the substance of the grounds. Asvabhāva says: The divisions and states of the wisdom of the selflessness of phenomena are called "grounds"; because tathatā has no divisions or states while wisdom has divisions and states, wisdom is called "ground." This treatise generally presents the meaning of the substance of the ground: the realized is also the ground, because "ground" has the meaning of supporting, sustaining, producing, and growing. Fascicle forty-seven says: Because it can hold and support the bodhisattvas, it is called "ground"; because it can serve as a dwelling place of enjoyment, it is called "abode." Thus tathatā and so forth are also called grounds, because they can hold and support. That is, real phenomena serve as the basis for nominal entities; hence real phenomena are called grounds. This is the second [section], presenting the substance.
