This treatise gathers the secrets of the diverse sūtras and embraces the purports of the various sages. What obstruction does it not dissolve? What profundity does it not illuminate? Looking up to it, it is boundless; gazing down into it, it is unfathomable. From afar, it seems devoid of wisdom; drawing near, it possesses true knowledge. It organizes the five sciences and unfolds the eight treasuries; whenever profound passes were guarded, the mysterious path was blocked. Yet just as mountain-like piles of fine down melt when exposed to blazing heat, or frost and ice accumulated in ravines dissolve when poured over with glowing warmth, it is truly the silver radiance of the great night and the golden mirror of dawn and dusk. Although it originally came from the five regions of India, there was no such blended commentary there. To merely assemble the separate works of the ten masters was difficult enough; how much more so to select these profound texts—it was truly unprecedented. This, then, is the cause and origin of this treatise.
