「緣用必依實有體故」者，此據正理。外道、小乘所執，體無，不得成緣，有所緣義。前卷設許薩婆多等有極微故，縱成緣義，而無所緣。就他比量，非自所許。今述正義，故不相違。

'Because the functional activity of conditions must rely on substantially real entities': this is based on correct principle. What is grasped by tīrthikas and the Hīnayāna lacks substance, so it cannot form a condition or possess the meaning of an ālambana. In the previous fascicle, even if admitting that the Sarvāstivādins and others have infinitesimal atoms, so that even though the meaning of a condition is established, there is no ālambana. This was an inference made according to the opponent, not our own position. Now the orthodox view is stated, so there is no contradiction.
