第二、三變俱解體、行，唯初能變釋行非體。此有二解：一云具論者質故，不具論者影故。二云初變有三相，後二皆無，自相即自體故。初變但解行，不可重彰其自體故。後二不然，行、體雙釋。此解稍能。

The second and third transformations both explain the essence (svabhāva) and the functioning (ākāra), whereas only the first transformer explains the functioning and not the essence. Regarding this there are two explanations: One says that the complete discussion concerns the fundamental archetype (bimba), while the incomplete discussion concerns the reflected image (pratibimba). The second says that the first transformation has three marks, while the latter two have neither, because its own mark (svalakṣaṇa) is itself its essence. The first transformation only explains functioning because its essence cannot be redundantly displayed. The latter two are not so, explaining both functioning and essence. This explanation is slightly better.
