Regarding "However, non-returners have strong counteractive power, so at the time of directly moistening rebirth they do not give rise to afflictions" and so forth, there are five objections therein: the fifth question below should be the first, the second should be the second, the first should be the third, and the rest follow in sequence. First question: As fascicle 59 states, seeing the truths moistens rebirth solely by latent dispositions, and the first noble one also moistens by active afflictions. Since it is said that ordinary beings moisten by both active occurrences and seeds, ordinary beings should also have moistening solely by seeds. Answer: Because noble ones have many different levels, their moistening involves active occurrences; ordinary beings are homogeneous, so they lack moistening solely by seeds. It would also follow that when a noble one is born in another stage, they moisten rebirth solely by seeds, and if born in their own stage, they moisten by active occurrences; ordinary beings should also be like this. If born in their own stage, because they do not yet have a counteractive path, active occurrences may be used; if born in another stage, they should moisten rebirth solely by seeds. Now the explanation is not so. When the uncontaminated path is complete, its power surpasses afflictions; when the uncontaminated path is deficient, active occurrences may become strong; they are not like ordinary beings, and therefore cannot serve as an analogy.
