Regarding 'nirodha-samāpatti', the Karmasiddhiprakaraṇa says: there are two kinds of mind: (1) the mind that accumulates and generates, because it is the place where immeasurable seeds accumulate and arise; (2) the diverse mind, because it operates with distinct ālambanas and ākāras. In states such as nirodha-samāpatti, the second mind is absent, and therefore it is called 'mindless'; just as a horse missing one leg is also called 'legless'. As for 'the ākāras of the eye-consciousness and the others are coarse, and their active arising necessarily involves labor and anxiety', and so on: this follows the common doctrine of the three vehicles; in reality, bodhisattvas beyond the eighth bhūmi have no sāsrava minds, so why would they necessarily involve labor and anxiety?
