第二解云：犯重捨戒，何以故？《瑜伽》但云：菩薩戒約上、中、下，不言別解脫，故知捨戒。何故《十輪經》言不捨戒，約化相言。若云犯者，便無植善因，不敬出家眾，故云不犯。《涅槃》約化相故，言捨不解我意，約實言不捨，不解我意。

The second explanation says: Committing a grave offense relinquishes the precepts. Why? The Yogācārabhūmi only speaks of the superior, intermediate, and inferior grades with respect to the bodhisattva precepts, but does not speak of the prātimokṣa; hence we know that [in the prātimokṣa] the precepts are relinquished. Why does the Daśacakra-sūtra say that the precepts are not relinquished? It speaks in terms of the pedagogical aspect. If one were to say that they have transgressed, people would not plant wholesome causes and would not respect the monastic saṃgha; therefore it says they have not transgressed. Because the Nirvāṇa [Sūtra] is framed in terms of the pedagogical aspect, it says that [saying] one relinquishes [the precepts] does not understand my intention; and in terms of the actual fact, saying that one does not relinquish them does not understand my intention.
