4.87

但說五識依五根者，由二義故：言相順者，一近相順，即近所依；二相資相順，五根有漏，五識亦有漏，五根無漏，五識亦無漏故。

The five consciousnesses are said to rely on the five faculties solely due to two meanings: Regarding 'mutual conformity', the first is proximate conformity, which is the proximate support; the second is nourishing conformity: when the five faculties are defiled, the five consciousnesses are also defiled; when the five faculties are undefiled, the five consciousnesses are also undefiled.
