答：一云初二作意全未有斷，第七作意據於下地更無可斷，中間觀察前後有斷，故相從說名斷對治。

Answer: One explanation is that in the first two mental applications there is no severance at all, and the seventh mental application is based on there being nothing more to sever in the lower stage, whereas in between, the mīmāṃsāmanaskāra is preceded and followed by severance; hence by association it is called an antidote of severance.
