問：諂誑唯初定。初定意受，而說是喜，悅根名樂。云何諂誑得與樂俱？答：雖悅根名正樂，是意相應喜，故得與並。

Question: Deceit (māyā) and fraud (śāṭhya) belong only to the first dhyāna. The mental feeling of the first dhyāna is said to be joy (prīti), while gladdening the faculties is called pleasure (sukha). How can deceit and fraud coexist with pleasure? Answer: Although gladdening the faculties is called true pleasure, it is joy associated with the mental consciousness; therefore they can coexist.
