答：為得諸欲及為受用，故起初取；為貪利養等增上力，故起第二取；奢摩他為依為往離欲，起第三取；為欲隨說分別所計，作業受果，士夫之相，起我語取。此意由為欲得，受用六塵境故，所以起貪乃至，為欲了知所計作業受果，起我語取。

Answer: To obtain desires and for their enjoyment, one produces the first grasping; through the predominant force of greed for gain and honor, one produces the second grasping; relying on śamatha in order to proceed to detachment from desire, one produces the third grasping; in order to designate and discriminate imagined characteristics of a person who creates karma and experiences fruits, one produces the grasping at self-theories. The meaning here is: because one desires to obtain and enjoy the six sense objects, greed arises; up to: because one desires to understand the imagined creation of karma and experience of fruits, grasping at self-theories arises.
