Question: The Pratītyasamutpāda-sūtra states: 'Why is it not said that craving and grasping serve as conditions for action?' The World-Honoured One replied: 'Craving and grasping operate within their own realm; ... up to: for craving and grasping to serve as the originating condition for those unmoving actions of the form and formless realms is unreasonable, because they are not their objects.' According to this, craving and grasping only take their own realm as object, and higher realms are not their objects. How is it that fascicle 6 says: 'Because of seeking birth in higher realms and relishing higher dhyānas, craving also takes higher realms as object'?
