《論》：「斷二障種，漸頓云何」者。本疏有二意：一、前說菩薩，未辨二乘，今對二乘辨斷差別；二、前明斷不分漸、頓，今明漸、頓小、大斷別。

Treatise: "As for severing the seeds of the two obstacles, how is it gradual or instantaneous?" The Root Commentary has two meanings: first, earlier it spoke of bodhisattvas without analyzing the two vehicles, and now it distinguishes the differences in severance in contrast to the two vehicles; second, earlier it explained severance without distinguishing gradual and instantaneous, and now it clarifies the distinction between gradual and instantaneous severance in the small and great [vehicles].
