答：不退有四：謂信、位、證、行。位如常顯，於十住後說。言退者，據證法說；言不退者，據位乘說。餘皆准此。或說發心皆不退者，據上品說。或為因能令後不退，非發心已即能不退。少可會多，不能煩舉。

Answer: Non-retrogression has four types: namely, faith, stage, realization, and practice. As usually explained, stage [non-retrogression] is spoken of after the ten abodes. The statement of retrogression is made in terms of the realized dharma; the statement of non-retrogression is made in terms of the stage and the vehicle. The rest are all analogous to this. Or, when it is said that generating the mind is in all cases non-retrogressing, it is spoken in terms of the superior grade. Or, it acts as a cause capable of bringing about non-retrogression later, not that having generated the mind one is immediately able to be non-retrogressing. A few examples can reconcile the many; one need not cite them exhaustively.
