答：既言於四位中，明簡上忍及第一位。不爾，但應云「於此四位」，何須說「中」？又解：於煗、頂位，觀名、義二離識是無，互不相屬，名悟遍計；觀名、義等唯有識量及假名、義，名悟依他；忍、第一位悟圓成實。此依《攝論》名、義為客處解。

Answer: Since it says "within the four stages," it clearly excludes the stages of superior patience and the supreme worldly dharma. If not, it should merely say "in these four stages"; why would it need to say "within"? Another interpretation: in the stages of heat and peak, contemplating that both names and referents are nonexistent apart from consciousness and do not belong to each other is called awakening to the imagined nature; contemplating that names, referents, and so forth are merely consciousness and nominal names and referents is called awakening to the other-dependent nature; the stages of patience and the supreme worldly dharma awaken to the consummate nature. This is explained in accordance with the passage in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha where names and referents are treated as guests.
