For the Sarvāstivāda, the three faculties of the rhinoceros horn [pratyekabuddha] and the two faculties of the bodhisattva are all subsumed under the Dharma jewel. Thus the Mahāvibhāṣā, fascicle 103, says: Serene faith verified by the Dharma refers to the three uncorrupted faculties, dharmas of the trainee and of the beyond-training within the person of a solitary realizer; the two uncorrupted faculties and all dharmas of the trainee within the person of a bodhisattva; and uncorrupted faith directed toward the three truths of suffering, origin, and cessation—these are called serene faith verified by the Dharma. Fascicle 25 of the Kośa has the same general import. To explain: the word "saṅgha" means harmony; a harmony of four or more people is called a saṅgha. Rhinoceros-horn [pratyekabuddhas] and bodhisattvas each appear alone in a chiliocosm; hence they are not called a saṅgha; and because they are not yet fully awakened, they are also not called buddhas; therefore they are included in the Dharma.
