有無本質悉緣名俱,有宗要有質、影心緣。若但闕質,心即不起,名獨不生,經部相、質俱無心生,名俱得起。此乃總結前三宗別。
Taking as object whether there is a fundamental substance (*mūla-dharmin*) or not is called 'both'. The Sarvāstivāda school requires that the mind takes as object both the substance and the reflection; if it merely lacks the substance, the mind does not arise at all, which is called 'not arising singly'. For the Sautrāntikas, when both the image and the substance are absent, the mind can still arise, which is called 'both can arise'. This is a general summary of the differences among the previous three schools.
