Each individual person is formed of the three guṇas and yet is not nominal; an army and so forth are formed merely of multiple persons and so forth, hence they are called nominal—it is not said that an army and so forth are formed of two guṇas. If the three guṇas are the reason, an army and so forth as similar examples lack the probans (sādhana). If one takes another person as the example, the other person is not nominal, lacking the probandum (sādhya); hence it is called having no example.
