詳曰：縱除常言，覺等亦但是宗同品，彼許覺等而能生果，非因同喻，故彼論云：一體、別體，彼覺為因，此體、彼體以遠近覺而為因也。既言為因，明能生果。

An examination shows: Even if the word "permanent" is removed, cognition and the like are only members of the similar class for the proposition; the opponent accepts that cognition and the like are able to produce effects, so they are not similar examples for the reason. Thus their treatise states: "Single substance and distinct substance have that cognition as cause; this substance and that substance have the cognition of proximity and distance as cause." Since it says they are causes, it is clear that they can produce effects.
