問：外又難云：汝七、八識應離六識無別自體；許是識性非無故；如眼等識。若離六識應非識性；許異六識故；如畢竟無等。量三支具，七、八應無。

Question: The non-Buddhist further challenges: "Your seventh and eighth consciousnesses should have no separate intrinsic nature apart from the six consciousnesses; because they are accepted as having the nature of consciousness and being not non-existent; just like the eye consciousness and the like. If they were separate from the six consciousnesses, they should not have the nature of consciousness; because they are accepted as different from the six consciousnesses; just like absolute non-existence and the like." Since the inference is fully equipped with the three members, the seventh and eighth should not exist.
