The motive intention that initiates body and speech is mostly the proximate cause; because it acts as the cause inducing body and speech, it is called 'concurrent origination'. That which can initiate is called 'origination'. Mind and mental factors after the second moment are merely called 'momentary', each moment inducing itself. That which arises from proximate causes is called 'transforming'; on the basis of its manifest [activity] and seeds, manifest and unmanifest [actions] are established. Momentary concurrent origination is called 'following along', because it follows along with the preceding transformation. Unmanifest [action] and so forth are not established on the basis of its manifest [activity] and seeds, because it does not initiate body and speech with a determinately wholesome or unwholesome nature; however, because the subsequent action arises clearly through [this] following along, its existence is established.
