Attainment is conditioned, so the attainment capable of [realizing] cessation does not belong to what is obtained. Conditioned and unconditioned are distinct. In severing defilements through the six mental practices, this attainment capable of obtaining is precisely sāsrava. If it is the attainment of cessation realized by anāsrava wisdom, the attainment is precisely anāsrava. The Sarvāstivāda school holds that the six mental practices can sever defilements and obtain cessation through deliberation.
