按彼論，經部破有部云：異於一法進退推微理不應有，異謂前後性相轉變，非即此法可言異此。故說頌曰：即前異不成，異前非一法，是故於一法，立異終不成。

According to that treatise, the Sautrāntika refutes the Sarvāstivādin, saying: 'Difference with respect to a single phenomenon, whether investigated by advancing or retreating, logically should not exist. Difference refers to a transformation in nature and characteristic between earlier and later; it cannot be said that this very phenomenon is different from this [phenomenon]. Thus the verse says: "Difference from the preceding is not established; / [yet] what differs from the preceding is not a single phenomenon. / Therefore, with respect to a single phenomenon, / positing difference ultimately fails."'
