Answer: The real entity of speech action in the Mahāyāna is volition alone. If it is understood according to nominal action, even sound separated from the physical base is called action without error. Therefore, the seventh fascicle of the Buddhabhūmy-upadeśa states that the actions of a transformation body and speech each have three kinds, namely, of one's own body, another's body, and non-bodily associated; mental action has only two, namely, of one's own body and another's body, lacking the non-bodily. 'Non-bodily' refers to the non-sentient; if it is associated with the mind, it is not non-sentient, and therefore there are only two kinds.
