根、塵自相名皆不得，故唯心得，佛果八識悉皆得之。因中第八得二自相，五識但得五塵自相，六、五同緣得塵自相。定中意識亦得五根，餘即不爾。

Names do not obtain the intrinsic characteristics of faculties and objects, so only the mind obtains them. In the buddha-fruit, all eight consciousnesses obtain them. In the causal stage, the eighth consciousness obtains both intrinsic characteristics, the five consciousnesses obtain only the intrinsic characteristics of the five objects, and when the sixth and five perceive the same object, it obtains the intrinsic characteristic of the object. In concentration, the mental consciousness also obtains the five faculties; the rest do not do so.
