答：要先聞聲見色生解，雖見色解教依聲，聞香生解不由聲故，許名等依香等。前解為勝，此依色等立名、句等，而無教遮，復不違理。

Answer: One must first hear sounds and see forms for understanding to arise; although when seeing forms understanding arises, the teaching is based on sound. Because understanding arising from smelling scents is not due to sound, names and so forth are permitted to depend on scents and so forth. The former interpretation is superior; here, establishing names, sentences, and so forth dependent on forms and so forth is not precluded by scriptural teaching, nor does it contradict reason.
