Answer: There is an opinion: The unconditioned space (ākāśa-asaṃskṛta) is manifested through both matter and mind. The Buddhabhūmy-upadeśa says: Because where the five aggregates are absent space is manifested; moreover, because the mind takes space as an object, it is called mind-manifested. Regarding analytical cessation (pratisaṃkhyā-nirodha), if based on that which can realize it, it is manifested solely by mind; if based on severance of bondages and severance of intrinsic nature, it is also manifested solely by mind, because the discriminating mind cuts off defilement and manifests it. Commonly speaking, the three severances are manifested by matter and mind, because they are realized through severing the five aggregates; or, they are manifested solely by mind. Non-analytical cessation (apratisaṃkhyā-nirodha) is manifested through both matter and mind, because it is manifested and obtained when conditions for matter and mind are lacking. Cessation through immobility and through the cessation of conception and feeling are manifested solely by mind, their meaning being self-evident. Now, because this universally manifests the causes for all unconditioned dharmas, it generally says 'or because their nature is manifested by matter, mind, and so forth'.
