答：若舉其因，顯此習氣亦有因生，并顯所生通八識等，復能顯自亦能為因，若直舉果，恐疑習氣不從因得，為含多義故舉其因，異熟習氣亦准此知。

Answer: If it cites the cause, it reveals that this vāsanā also arises from a cause, and also reveals that what is produced encompasses all eight consciousnesses, etc., and furthermore is able to reveal that it itself can also act as a cause. If it directly cited the fruit, there would be the fear of suspecting that the vāsanā is not obtained from a cause. In order to encompass multiple meanings, it cites its cause. The fruition vāsanā (vipāka-vāsanā) should also be understood accordingly.
