Some say: "Equal" (ni-) means similar, which already shows identity of class. What is called "flow" (syanda) has the meaning of flowing and continuing: because the fruit arises from the cause and is what flows forth from the cause, it is called a "flow"; being the flow of the equal, it is also a genitive tatpuruṣa compound. Alternatively, the produced fruit is similar to the cause and is called "equal", and arising from that, it is called "flow"; this equality is itself the flow, which is a karmadhāraya compound. Therefore, the Treatise states: "Because the fruit resembles the cause, it is called an outflow of the equal (niṣyanda)."
