因中第八望無漏種,二變俱無,不緣、不熏,如次不名緣生二變。果位本識緣故名變,因位無漏六、七二識具有二變,果中七識但緣名變,義思可知。
In the causal stage, the eighth consciousness relative to uncontaminated seeds lacks both transformations: it does not take them as objects, nor are they perfumed [by it], so respectively it is not called the two transformations of taking as object and producing. In the stage of fruition, the fundamental consciousness takes them as objects and is thus called transforming. In the causal stage, the uncontaminated sixth and seventh consciousnesses possess both transformations; in the stage of fruition, the seven consciousnesses are called transforming merely by taking them as objects. The meaning can be known upon reflection.
