3.244

如諸色等曾為相分被見分緣，故後能憶。心既不爾，後何能憶？故後能憶明由先時自證緣也。

Just as the various forms and so forth have previously served as image-aspects to be taken as objects by the vision aspect, and thus can subsequently be remembered: since the mind is not like that, how could it subsequently be remembered? Therefore, that it can subsequently be remembered clearly comes from its having been previously cognized by self-awareness.
