如在下界起天眼、耳緣上界色，下界第八而不緣上，即天眼、耳無第八境為所杖質，故闕疎緣。

For instance, when in a lower realm one gives rise to the divine eye and ear to cognize form of a higher realm, the eighth consciousness of the lower realm does not cognize the higher realm; thus, the divine eye and ear have no object of the eighth consciousness to serve as the supporting substance, and therefore lack an indirect condition.
