Both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna holy teachings contain this meaning. Therefore, the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, fascicle 1, states: 'Excluding the preceding and subsequent form, feeling, perception, and consciousness, all remaining saṃskāras are called the saṃskāra-skandha. Yet in the sūtras the Bhagavān stated that the six classes of volition are the saṃskāra-skandha because they are the most supreme. Why is this? Saṃskāra means fabricating/conditioning; volition is the nature of karma. Because its meaning of fabricating is strong, it is called the most supreme. Therefore, the Buddha taught that whatever is capable of fabricating sāsrava conditioned dharmas is called the saṃskārôpādānaskandha.'
