3.487

有義：依疏初說作意種子，警已逢緣，應起心種。以警種者，此唯種子義不相應，今釋相應現作意故。

One opinion says: According to the Commentary's first explanation, it is the seed of attention (manaskāra) that, when alerted and meeting conditions, alerts the seed of the mind that ought to arise. If it alerts the seed, this solely refers to the seed, and the sense of association (saṃprayukta) would not apply; yet it is now explaining actual attention associated [with the mind].
