3.64

前種望與現行為因，後種望與種子為因，種能種生名為有種。或復翻彼現能熏種名為有種，種子與此有種為因，意明種子與現及種二為因也。

The prior seed serves as cause for an active manifestation, and the subsequent seed serves as cause for a seed; a seed able to produce a seed is termed 'possessor of seed'. Or again, reversing that, the active [dharma] capable of perfuming seeds is termed 'possessor of seed', and the seed serves as cause for this possessor of seed; the intention is to clarify that seeds serve as causes for both the active and the seed.
