眼識與意落謝過去，後意續起；意落謝已。眼等復與意識續起名遞相續。非意識滅後獨眼生，名互相續，以五必與意俱起故。

Eye-consciousness and manovijñāna drop away into the past, and a subsequent manovijñāna arises continuously; after manovijñāna has dropped away, the eye-consciousness and so forth again arise continuously along with manovijñāna: this is called 'continuously arising in turn'. It does not mean that after manovijñāna ceases, eye-consciousness alone arises, which would be called mutually continuing, because the five must arise together with manas.
